Cooking Pot Tutorial

Some of you asked me to make a tutorial on how to make a cooking pot after seeing the one I made. You can see it by clicking here: [link]
This tutorial is a bit more colorful than usual…I felt like it today, lol.

Step #1
You will need:
a) A small metal cup. (It can be ceramic also, as long as it can go in the oven)
b) Baking Soda (or any other kind of powder you feel comfortable with, it’s just to make sure the clay doesn’t stick to the work surface and the metal cup)
c) Some clay (here I chose black and silver to make my pot look old and more realistic)
d) An old paintbrush (for the Baking Soda/ Powder)
e) A round cutter (here I chose to use a “Kinder Surprise” egg because it’s the perfect size)
f) I forgot to take a picture of it…but a rolling pin is also needed (or a pasta machine set on 3, but a rolling pin can do just fine)
g) Oh and a knife/blade…also forgot to put it on the picture, silly me… *rolls eyes*

Step #2
Mix black and silver clay (half and half is good), until you reach the color as shown on picture #3.

Step #3
You can see the difference between the black and silver colors now that it’s all mixed up! :D
Roll the clay until it is about 2mm think (1/16”)

Step #4
With the old paintbrush, spread a bit of baking soda/ powder on your work surface, then onto the clay you’ve just rolled.

Step #5
Mold the clay onto the metal cup carefully and evenly. Take your time. :)

Step #6
Now that the clay has been molded onto the metal cup, put the cutter over it but don’t squish it! Cut the exceeding clay at the bottom of the cutter with a knife/blade. BE CAREFUL! (It’s hard to explain so I hope the picture is enough, lol).

Step #7
It should look like that once you remove the cutter (you’ll understand why we did Step #6 right on Step #8).

Step #8
On a rolled piece of clay, cut a piece with the round cutter. Step #6 was important because now that piece will fit as the lid.

Step #9
Make a “snake” with a piece of clay and put it on the lid (it doesn’t matter much if it is “ugly” because it will be the inside of the lid.

Step #10
Make three mini “snakes” for the handles on either side of the “pot” and the lid, as shown on picture 10.

Step #11
It’s time to bake your project. Make sure you follow the directions for the clay you use as not to over or under-bake your piece. :)

Step #12
Once you have removed your piece from the oven, wait for about 5 minutes until it has cooled down a bit but not completely. Then, take a dish cloth or a glove to hold the metal cup. BE CAREFUL, you don’t want to burn your fingers! Gently pry the pot from the cup. It should not be hard, since you used the baking soda/powder (if you followed the steps, lol). And since it is not fully cooled it should be easier.

Step #13
Should look like this with the lid on!

Step #14
Done! :D
