My advice would be; don't try painting directly on foam core! lol It won't take the moisture of the pain all too well. It will deform and ruin your work. If you want a "painted" wall, I suggest you take a piece of wood the size of the wall you want to paint and add paint to it before slipping the piece into place.
Also, Tacky Glue, though I little more expensive than regular school/white glue, is the best choice! Hot glue and foam does not cooperate so well and white glue is not sturdy enough!
