Years later...

3 min read

It's been forever since I've been here. Sorry about that. I did not fall off the face of the Earth! ;)

My life has been...challenging lately. And not only because of the Covid crap going around. My body has decided to give me a harder time and has deteriorated quite a bit. My hands are hurting more and my legs as well. Covid did not help. No, I did not have the virus (knocks on wood), but having to stay on lockdown took a toll on my body. Being isolated from my loved ones is still quite the challenge. Have not seen my father in 16 months! Damn! I miss some other family members, and the rare friends I have.

My hands are keeping me from making miniatures. I try to craft still, but I put miniatures aside for now.

I still draw sometimes. In the past few months I have been drawing mandalas. For a while, I could draw one a day.

I crochet a bit. I read a lot and play video games from time to time.

On March 10th, I had to have surgery to my right foot. My toes were all crooked toward under my foot and I was basically walking on my knuckles. Now, 7 weeks later, I finished the recovery period and my toes are straight...but can't bend anymore. Oh well, better that than walk on my joints, right? ;) I could not leave my home for the entire 7 weeks, aside from my followups. I live on a second floor and there are just too many stairs. Now I can take them, but I get tired very quickly and I hurt so... I will work on recovering my strength little by little. It will take time, but it will be worth it I hope.

I have also been making beaded bracelets. I made 4 last week and gave them to someone I hope will appreciate them and like the fact they are handmade and have a story to it.

There's not much else to talk about, so I will stop here. I want to return to art, in some ways, and I will try to come here more than I did in the past couple years.

I want to thank those who took the time to write to me, asking if I was still alive, ahah. I tried answering everyone, but since I did not come here much, I did not answer messages that were like a year old or the users were not longer on DA.

See you around. Hope I still got a couple followers here. :D

Hello followers!
I know, it's been forever...

I also know that I've been working on a Barbie Kitchen, but then I wanted to have space for kids in that kitchen, so I made a high chair and so on so forth, I made more and more furniture for kids (a Kelly doll and a baby) and...well...ended up going for that kid bedroom thing. The kitchen will be continued as soon as the weather permits me to spray paint some of the pieces I need outside. For now...too cold...and wet.

I need help with something and maybe one of you can give me a hand. I need clothes for my Kelly girl and I was wondering if anyone had a sewing pattern to make her a nice wardrobe. Looking for a free pattern, to make her pants for one; I have patterns to make her dresses and tops, but not pants.
Oh and...does anyone have a pattern to make shoes? See, I bought my Kelly doll at a thrift store. She was naked as the day she was manufactured. =P So, no clothes, no shoes.

Can anyone help me find free, printable pattern for a Kelly (or 4 inch) doll? I looked on pinterest and google image, but some of the patterns I've found have no measuring to scale the pictures at the right size for the dolls.

I would be grateful for any help I can get! :)

YES! I'm back to miniature making!

There is a context to my sudden come back.

My sister-in-law is in a choir and one of her fellow choir member owns a gift store in Montreal, which she is turning into a store where artisans from Quebec will be able to shine and show off their work. So, my sister-in-law told her about me and she showed the shop owner some of my stuff online. The very same day I was asked if I wanted to send her some of my items to sell in her store!
So now, I have a small space in her shop! I turned some of my miniatures into jewelry, because at first they were meant for doll houses and stuff like that. Some of these items had been in boxes since 2013... So, why not try having them into a real store instead of staying forgotten in a box?

I am very motivated now. I don't have much energy, to say the truth, and I have been in a lot of pain lately, but I work on my stuff little by little, a little bit every day, and the shop owner is very understanding and nice.

I posted some of what I made for the store here, or you can see on my Kayanah Miniature Facebook page, if you want; there will be more soon, I promise! :D

Hello Followers!

Yeah, I put the crochet thing on hiatus, for one very good reason.  IT IS TOO HOT to work with yarn on my knees... I have a hard time coping with the heat so, so wool stuff is a no no for me these days. So I began painting...by accident really.
Let me explain:
My stepmother gave me some painting magazines and my mom took a look at them and found a painting she liked and wanted it, so I told her I would try to make something similar, but with the colors in her bedroom, and that's what I ended up making:
Asian Lady Painting: WIP #4 by kayanah My mom likes it; I put it on a red cardboard canvas and it is now on one of her bedroom walls.

One of my friends saw it and asked me if I could try making a painting of cheerleaders. Her daughter is into cheerleading competitions; you know, not the kind with pompoms! So I said: I'll try, but cannot promise anything. I cannot show you yet, as I do not have my customer's permission,  but so far, I am progressing well and really am beginning to enjoy painting! I'm not great at it, but I think I'm doing good. As soon as I can get my customer's permission, I will show you! :D

Hello everyone!

If you are one of my followers, you might have seen that I currently am learning Crochet. So far, I can read "written" patterns, but not diagrams just yet. And I am learning the grammar of it all in French. So, when I am comfortable enough, I will translate the terms in the english patterns into french terminology.

Getting used to the abbreviations is hard also, but I have developed a way to make it easier to learn. I got a notebook and rewrite all the patterns in two colors. Blue for general terms, red for abbreviations, which I un-abbreviate, lol. I write the full term in red, instead of having the abbreviations. I used to learn that way in my math classes by almost completely copying the book with colors and all. It helps a lot. Well, it is helpful to me at least. Now I am almost to the point of being comfortable reading patterns in their original version.

You don't see much of my crochet here because I redo lots of stuff as I go. Practice is the best thing and the nice part with crochet is that it is rather easy to undo a return to the place where you missed.

The line is thin between "pretty crochet things" and "kitsch". I don't want to go into kitschy stuff, but to learn to techniques, I need to go there. lol.
My goal is to make mini crochet things for dolls and dollhouses. Imagine if I could make mini doilies or table cloths, sweaters or hats. It would be awesome!
